Today Salsa Cycles announced their ‘Return to Titanium’ and released the new Timberjack Ti frame and a Fargo Ti frameset to dealers across the US. Act now if you want one, ’cause they’re gonna go fast! Also, check out these dream builds and some sneak peek shots of the Timberjack Ti frame…

UPDATE: Check out Logan’s Rider and Rig for a deeper look at the Timberjack Ti. Some might argue that Titanium is the perfect material to complement Salsa’s business mantra, ‘Adventure by Bike’. So when the company pulled titanium frame options out of their 2016 model year lineup — most notably the El Mariachi Ti, Warbird Ti, and Mukluk Ti — it agitated a few diehards. What might be seen as a treaty flag symbolizing their reentry into Titanium frame manufacturing, today Salsa Cycles released two limited batches of the new Timberjack Ti and Fargo Ti. The move was oddly timed ahead of Saddledrive, which adds to the mystery. Here are some sneak peek photos (by Andy Forron of New River Bikes unless noted) and more about the frames.

From Salsa: “A couple years back we introduced our 2016 line and many of you noticed a significant change; there were no Titanium models in the mix. Those that were paying close attention will remember our reply: Who said we were done with titanium?”

Salsa Engineer Sean Mailen is a big fan of titanium and welcomed the opportunity to work with it again. “Titanium has an incredible ride and hits the sweet spot between lightweight, strong, and durable,” he said. “Once you fall in love with titanium nothing else can replace it. It’s a frame material I’m happy we are still working with. Titanium has its own unique feel that you just can’t get from any other material.”

Both models share the same geometry and features as their model year 2017 non-titanium counterparts. And both are built for us premier Ti frame manufacturer, ORA. They feature 3/2.5 seamless, TIG welded, triple-butted titanium tubesets.

Salsa Timberjack Ti (frame only)

Last July Salsa Cycles debuted the alloy Salsa Timberjack, an affordable 27.5+ (or 29er) hardtail destined for trails and bikepacking adventures alike. They just upped the ante with a not so affordable titanium frame-only version with the same specs as its alloy cousin. If you are looking for a combo trail bike and adventure rig, this very well could be the last bike you ever buy…

Like the alloy Timberjack, the Ti version also boasts a few highlights that might be particularly interesting to those looking for a bike perfect for bikepacking and trail riding. The geometry features a long cockpit, short chainstays and a BOOST rear end with Alternator 2 dropouts to accommodate a variety of setups. It also has a threaded BB and internal cable routing ports for a clean and organized frame triangle.
