BAM! – the European Bicycle Adventure Meeting – once again attracted bike enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad this May. Over the course of three days, more than 5,000 people visited the BAM! village in Mantua, northern Italy.

Massive groups of bicycle travelers in colorful jerseys pedaled to the event, close to 600 of whom stayed in the event’s Campo Canoa camping area in a temporary city of over 400 tents. Beyond the many bicycle travelers who rode to the event, there was a diverse group of attendees – including many families with children – who arrived from various corners of Europe.

“We are excited about the success of BAM! in Mantua,” said city councilman Iacopo Rebecchi, “Thousands of cyclists have been able to know and appreciate our city… and many local people have approached the cycling world, we want to repeat this experience in the coming years to make Mantua one of the European capitals of cycling tourism.”

Attendees enjoyed a mix of workshops, group rides around the area, concerts, vendor booths, and presentations. The exciting atmosphere of the weekend has led some folks to refer to it as the European “Woodstock of bicycles.” The continued success of BAM! is a good indicator of the growing interest in the unique point of view afforded by bicycle travel.
