UPDATE (Race Recap): Five riders stepped up, and were quickly shut down, by the first DangerBird350. After only 15 miles the circuitous and relentless course convinced the first rider to bail.  Only a few miles later, Team Shortcut, began making amendments to the route in an attempt to salvage an enjoyable ride.  With only two riders remaining on course after 35 miles the DangerBird made it clear who was in charge.  The raw, rocky, trails of the Northern Dona Ana mountains saw the end of another riders chances to finish.  By the end of the day only one rider remained on course and would go on to complete only 130 miles of the 345 mile route.  Based on the already difficult Monumental Loop the DangerBird350, which adds 45 miles of faint, gnarly singletrack, remains uncompleted.  Look for your chance to be the first next October! – Matt Mason, Organizer

The DangerBird350 is an opportunity to show your support for Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and help ensure bicycling has a place in the Monument going forward. The route was designed to maximize time spent in the Monument and uses existing dirt roads and singletrack. Highlights include 6 mountain ranges, 2 National Monuments, various historical, geological, and cultural sites that range from NASA test sites to 500 year old petroglyphs. While we hope some riders go fast the goals of the event are to protect public land and increase community awareness of this valuable resource.

The race follows the Monumental Loop in Southern New Mexico, check out all of the route’s details, here.
