UPDATE (Race Recap): The 2017 Capital Trail race participants experienced warm, but much more favourable weather than the 2016 event. The fastest riders were Ed Wolstenholme and Saul Muldoon, coming in at 18 hours, 46 minutes. Just one minute behind was Andreas Schaefer, and the remainder of the group finished between the 21 and 36 hour mark. Check out Ed’s post-race blog post and Bruce Mathieson’s video of the event. At a distance of approximately 150 miles and 6000m/19,685ft of climbing over 2 days time, the Capital Trail is a solid challenge. Singletrack, Land Rover tracks, forest roads, and quiet country lanes lead participants through “the very best Scotland’s South has got to offer.”

The route starts and finishes on Portobello Beach and features the beautiful Firth of Forth coastline, the River Esk, Carberry Hill, the Winton Estate and the Pencaitland Railway Path, Saltoun Big Woods, the quiet and scenic country lanes of East Lothian, Lammer Law, the Southern Upland Way, Thirlestane Castle, Melrose Abbey, the River Tweed, the Borders and Abbey Way, the Three Brethren, the 7Stanes trails at Innerleithen and Peebles, Kirkhope Law, the Cross Borders Drove Road, the Meldons and Pentland Hills.To finish it all off, the Capital Trail offers some incredible views of Edinburgh.
