Carl Gauger

Bikepacking Routes Ambassador

As a kid, Carl’s bicycle enabled him to explore, travel, and be independent. While he lost track of his priorities for a few years after obtaining his first car, his life began revolving around bikes again when he got a job at a local bike shop at 19.

Years passed, working as a mechanic at Monkey Wrench Cycles in Lincoln, Nebraska, and while he maintained a casual interest in bike camping and the occasional short tour, two wheeled travels were mainly for single day recreation and commuting. It wasn’t until the spring of 2014, when he tagged along on a backroad tour with a motley crew of Northern California frame builders and dirtbags, that he fell completely head over heels for the solitude, openness, and freedom that backcountry touring can offer.

No sooner had he returned to Nebraska, then he started devoting all his efforts to exploring the remote, rugged landscapes of his home state. While Carl still turns wrenches at the bike shop, he now also runs guided, self supported bike tours through the high plains backcountry that he loves so much. True happiness for him is falling asleep on the open plains staring up at the Milky Way and listening to the conversation of the local coyotes.
